Now that we know the note names of our frets (Learn the Fretboard), let's learn about scales.
Our first scale will be C Major, and we'll learn it in two different ways:
The first is a very common way to play this on the guitar
The second is borrowing the concept of tetra-chords from the piano
2-3-3
This way of playing a C Major scale is a very common shape.
It's very compact and simple to see and play.
We'll learn the scale as Letters & Numbers:
C, D, E, F, G, A , B, C
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 1
TETRA-CHORDS
This way of playing a C Major scale is derived from tetra-chords on the piano.
This moves more often along the string, than across strings as in the above 2-3-3.
Again, we'll learn the scale as Letters & Numbers:
C, D, E, F, G, A , B, C
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 1
